Henry Wahlig swims for research into HSP

1,500 metres across a part of Lake Constance, despite being in a wheelchair!

Nine years after taking part in the Gnadensee Swim for the first time, Henry Wahlig has once again completed the approximately 1,500-metre swim between Allensbach and the island of Reichenau.

Yet the challenge is even greater today than it was back then: Henry, who lives with the rare neurological condition HSP, spends most of his daily life in a wheelchair. This makes it all the more impressive that he took on the long-distance swim again on 18 July 2026 – and even beat his personal best in the process!

On the day, Henry was supported by the DLRG, TWS ‘Stepmaker’ Jürgen Keck and his family. Through his challenge, he has shown what is possible when courage, solidarity and commitment come together.
